The Plot:

Still reeling from the loss of her mother, medical student Nancy Adams travels to a secluded beach for some much-needed solace. Despite the danger of surfing alone, Nancy decides to soak up the sun and hit the waves. Suddenly, a great white shark attacks, forcing her to swim to a giant rock for safety. Left injured and stranded 200 yards from shore, the frightened young woman must fight for her life as the deadly predator circles her in its feeding ground.

The Verdict:

Just when you thought it was time to go into the water at the beach this summer, Sony Pictures brings out The Shallows.

This drama/thriller movie keeps you on the edge of your seat from the very beginning. Even though the movie is highly predictable it was still enjoyable and worth the watch.

This is a story about a female surfer who gets bitten by a stalker, oversized shark. Luckily she has a medical background (of course) and is able to help herself as she fights for her survival.

The movie was a visual let down on its poor animal animation of dolphins, jellyfish, shark and whale. The only realistic animal was a seagull which should say something about the rest of it.

Many parts throughout the movie made me think they were only put into the story to make it more dramatic rather than lifeless. A dead whale, a drunk man and a young boy, all appears from nowhere.

If the shark was really as big as they show, how could it have survived in such shallow water if it was covered with rocks and sharp coral along the ocean bed? When Nancy swims through the middle of all the jellyfish, how come she only got stung by one?

The movie is a cross between Jaws/Open Water/Blue Crush. If you want some mindless entertainment then check this movie out, it will thrill you to bits.
