Day 26 - Drive to Kathmandu (1400m) - 2.5hrs

This morning was our last early wake up for our trip.

The alarm went off at 5:00am, as our guide wanted to leave the hotel by 5:30am to catch the spectacular sunrise over some of the highest mountains in the world.

After a short drive we made it to our view spot. Much better than the crowded and recommend High Tower spot.

Tourist admiring and reflecting as the sunrises over this magnificent mountain range

The smog had already started to build and the view wasn’t clear. We arrive before the sun came up and were able to see Mount Everest. Just. The higher the sun rose the worse the view got.

As clear as its going to get this morning to see the mountains. A small glimpse of the "Shy Mountain" Mt Everest can be seen

By the time we returned to the hotel others were just waking up and taking photos of the now non existent mountain range. I think the smog is worse than yesterday.

After returning to the hotel, showering and packing our stuff we headed to the buffet breakfast. Nothing to special but a nice change.

After breakfast we went back to the room to relax in the morning sun on our balcony before having to leave at 9:00am to head back to Kathmandu.

The traffic on the way back was heavier as it was during peak hour. Peak hour at home is between 7 - 9 am in the morning not around 10am.

We arrived back at the Kathmandu Eco Hotel. Checked into a new room and had a bit of a nap. The multiple medications and the early start is catching up on me.

An amazing cut throat shave after a month of no shaving. But the head massage that came after was a little to much

Around 1:00pm we headed out for lunch. But first a cut throat shave. It was nice to get a clean face again.

Lunch today was a nice hamburger. Finally.

After lunch we headed back to the room to start repackaged our suitcases and cleaning our shoes and poles. As Nepal is an area where you tread on a lot of waste while trekking. Customs may want to inspect your poles and shoes for contamination that could be brought into ones country.

Note:

Before heading home just make sure you clean your boots and have them ready for inspection if requested.

Tonight’s dinner a traditional Nepalese meal with cultural dancing. Dad loves these things. Not. We meet our guide in reception at 7:00pm and we make the short walk together to the restaurant. The food was nice. A great place to go to if you haven’t been trekking and been subjected to traditional Nepalese food. The dance entertainment was not like other shows we have attended before. Each song goes on forever. The final song was audience inclusive but we kindly declined as we were in the middle of our meal.

All in all the night was great. Thank you to By Mountain People for the night out.

Tomorrow we start to make was way home. But not till 11:30pm. Still a long day ahead.
